Oct. 5, 2026 | 'Fraud Department' Offering to Block Transactions
On Oct. 5, we were informed that at least two individuals received a phone call from someone claiming to be a WSB fraud department employee. Though the phone call appeared to be coming from Western State Bank's actual phone number, the call was not from Western State Bank. The caller said the individuals' accounts had been compromised and offered to block any more transactions; he then proceeded to ask for their account numbers, online banking login information, and debit card information.
Reminders:
- We will NEVER call you to ask for your personal information.
- We will not urge you to stay on the line nor attempt to dissuade you from speaking with your local banking center staff.
- Scammers use fear and urgency to trick you into giving away your information.
- If you sense that something feels off, hang up and call your bank directly or visit in person.
