Sept. 8, 2026 | Spoofed Phone Number | Debit Card Scam Attempt
On Sept. 8, we were informed that at least two individuals received a phone call from someone claiming to be a WSB fraud department employee. Though the phone call appeared to be coming from Western State Bank's actual Garden City phone number (620-275-4128), the call was not from Western State Bank. The caller said the individuals' debit cards had been compromised and claimed he wanted to verify transactions.
When the customer said they'd prefer to talk directly with their local banking center, the scammer became upset and tried to talk the customer into staying on the line. not want the customer to look at her bank account or online banking for up to 48 hours.
